• FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid)

Apply online at www.fafsa.ed.gov (be careful NOT to use fafsa.ed.com)

You may pick up a FAFSA on the Web worksheet or a paper FAFSA copy at the counseling office.

    FAFSA deadline:
must be received by March 1, 2020

It is very important that all students complete the FAFSA form. It costs nothing and it is required for students to receive any federal and state monies (grants and/or loans). If you are not planning to attend post high school immediately, fill the form out anyway. People's plans change and you will be in a much better position if you change your mind about attending school.

    Helpful Information About FAFSA

Your FAFSA will generally be processed within 72 hours if you apply online.

If you file online you will need an FSAID. This allows you to apply for and "sign" the FAFSA online, check the status of your submitted FAFSA and make corrections. You and a parent can request an FSAID at the US Department of Education pin registration web site, www.fsaid.ed.gov

Do not delay completing your FAFSA. If your family tax return is not ready for filing, you may estimate the tax information and submit it to FAFSA. Please make any corrections once your tax report is completed.

File a FAFSA form even if you think your family makes too much money. You have nothing to loose by filling out the form but may loose money if you don't.

You will receive award letters from schools if you are eligible for any aid and grants, and your Expected Family Contribution (EFC). The awards may vary from school to school so carefully compare your options.

NEED HELP WITH YOUR FAFSA FORM?
Each year the counselor holds a FAFSA Night(s). This is an opportunity for students and parents to come and listen to information provided by the Financial Aid office at LSSU. You DO NOT have to be going to LSSU to obtain this information. They simply come to help. They will provide information on Financial Aid and the FAFSA and some scholarship information. This is for both students and their parents. Students listen to the announcements for the specific date(s) of the meeting.
